Wilkins Chimney Sweep have named John Baldacchino as their franchisee of the year at their 6th annual conference.
John Baldacchino, owner of Wilkins Chimney Sweep (West Cheshire) has won ‘Franchisee of the Year’ for the second time and is the only franchisee to have ever won the award twice.
The award was handed out during a day-long conference hosted by husband and wife team, Peter and Louise Harris, who founded the franchise in 2010. The franchise is based on the original Wilkins Chimney Sweep business that was founded in 1895.
Wilkins uses a ‘Balanced Scorecard’ to mark franchisees on a variety of subjects including innovation, marketing mix, adherence to brand, treatment of colleagues and head office, customer satisfaction, financial management and telephone handling.
John has worked closely with the franchisor on developing a new CRM system which has benefitted the entire network and, despite being very ill and unable to work for 6 weeks of 2016, he still managed to see a 60% increase in profits for his business, which covers a diverse territory, including a large volume of social housing stock and also homes belonging to the high net worth ‘Cheshire Set’.
The conference began with franchisees presenting their own ‘top tip’ to each other, pieces of kit or tricks and techniques learned ‘on the job’. Then followed back to back presentations by the franchisor, a talk by an industry related supplier and advice on tax issues by the company’s accountant Dennis and Turnbull.
During breaks in the day franchisees were able to network with each other and take part in a fun ‘Best Van’ competition.
Louise Harris, franchise director of Wilkins Chimney Sweep who is herself a finalist in two categories of the 2017 EWIF awards, ‘Inspirational Woman’ and ‘Woman Franchisor of the Year’ said:
"We were delighted to award John his second and much deserved ‘Franchisee of the Year’ award yesterday. He is a terrific franchisee for so many reasons; John has a very strong corporate and commercial background and brings with him skills that have helped us develop and grow the business for the benefit of the entire network. He is always happy to help when we ask, be it developing a new piece of software or deciding how to improve our digital presence. He is also a great support for other franchisees in the network all whilst running a very successful business himself. He communicates honestly and openly with us and is genuinely a joy to have as a franchisee. He is an outstanding brand ambassador."
Responding to his award John said:
"I’m delighted to have won the award for Franchisee of the Year for the second time. It’s lovely to be recognised by the business for all of my hard work over the last 12 months but I’m especially pleased about the number of congratulations I’ve received from my customers."
Wilkins Chimney Sweep currently has territories for sale across the UK.
