A local transport company is recruiting more employees thanks to an amazing level of growth over the past three years.
Driver Services Group Ltd based in Oakwell Business Park in Birstall near Batley has recently expanded its warehouse facility by 50 per cent in order to accommodate the growing level of business and has added six vans to its transport fleet with a seventh coming on line within the next month.
Owner Roger Meehan (55) took over the business back in 2001 and since then, has turned it into a very successful franchise operation, running Interlink Express deliveries within the Leeds and Bradford areas.
Roger first attempted to buy the franchise business in 1993 and again in 1998 before succeeding in 2001. He had focussed on this particular business because he saw the enormous potential it had. He says: “I began with 13 vans, we now have a fleet of 19 along with 30 staff and we’re moving in excess of 1,000 parcels a day. It’s a real achievement.”
When things became rather too cramped in the original warehouse, Roger bought the adjacent unit for £230,000 and proceeded to knock down the connecting wall, resulting in the expansion of his depot from 5,500 sq. ft. to over 8,000 sq. ft. Driver Services operates from the upper floor with the entire ground floor devoted to Interlink Express.
If Roger’s business plan continues at the current pace, he anticipates adding a further four or five vans to the fleet over the next three years. He values the advantages of being an Interlink franchise operator, saying: “It’s a strong brand with a strong support system. It’s certainly working for me and my customers.”
Fantastic performance levels are being achieved across the 98 strong Interlink Express depot network. This is the case for each of the three timed deliveries – by 9.30, by 12 and by 3. And overall performance has increased from 96.18% to an impressive 97.8%.
This is proof positive of the success of the repositioning of Interlink Express last year, introducing new products and services and becoming the easiest carrier for small and medium sized businesses to deal with.
Taking one week as an example - for the by 9.30 service 42 depots out of 98 achieved 100%! For the by 12 service, 43 depots reached 100%. For by 3, 40 depots achieved over 99%, with 9 hitting a perfect 100%.
