When was the franchise established in the uk?

The Interlink Express Parcels service is launched in 1981 - one of the first franchise operators. Eleven parcels are moved on the first night. Now we process more than 20,000 parcels per hour at our multi-million pound sortation hub in Smethwick, West Midlands.

How many franchisees does it have?

100 franchise outlets across the UK and a further 31 in Ireland – where we are number one express carrier.

How many franchisees would you like to recruit?

Each year we look to recruit approximately 10 new franchisees. This is very much in line with other well-established franchises, who have a churn rate of 10-15%

What sort of skills or attributes are you looking for?

Clearly required are commitment, drive and energy with good business skills and a supportive home environment. We’re particularly looking for excellent people management skills and also a service-orientation can be advantageous.

What is the TOTAL cost for a turnkey operation (ie the full amount required to get up and running)? What is the minimum investment?

All our franchise purchasers are buying an existing business. Cost is broadly split into two areas – goodwill and asset value. Both of these will vary enormously, dependent on the size and scope of the specific depot, it could be from three routes to 30. In terms of investment value in goodwill, this typically is from £100k-£400k, dependent on the size/scope of the business.

Interlink Express, the franchised distribution operation of GeoPost UK, offers delivery solutions to 32,000 customers through a network of 100 depots in the UK. The company employs a 600 strong workforce at its national hub, a £15 million hub based in Birmingham, from which Interlink Express operates 1,000 vehicles and distributes 16 million parcels per annum.

Interlink Express now offers a new, unbeatable range of domestic services – by 9.30am, by 12 noon and by 3pm. It also provides international express services through European sister companies DPD and Chronopost International.
