“It took us three redundancies to finally decide that we should be working for ourselves. I already knew the benefits of franchising, having had sixteen years experience at management level within the industry, setting up and developing a franchise home delivery network for dairymen. Unfortunately, home delivery of milk was diminishing under pricing pressure from supermarkets, which led to me being made redundant.

“My connections with franchising put me in touch with OSCAR and its team early on, especially as home delivery was never far away from our own doorstep. I appreciated that the benefits of a tried and tested franchise provided good grounds for starting a business and, with an excellent product that offered regular repeat sales in a growing market, our thoughts about OSCAR could not have been better.

“Between us, we had all the right attributes for running our own franchise business and, after Julie experienced redundancy from her job with an estate agent, we decided it really was time to do something about it. With so much knowledge, we were still not prepared to commit without first researching the pet food market, talking to franchisees and preparing a business plan.

“We started our OSCAR business back in 2005 and with hard work and determination everything has worked out. Julie is excellent at customer service and book-keeping, as well as continually helping to develop our business. At the end of the day, we want to achieve a good income that will provide funds to support our retirement. Our aim is to enjoy ourselves and meet lots of people with pets that would benefit from OSCAR food and the other OSCAR services provided. We are confident our OSCAR franchise will see us through without having to worry about redundancy again.”
