Veg box deliverers and self-confessed 'veg nerds', Riverford Organic Farmers know a thing or two about healthy, seasonal eating. Their new scheme, The Veg Fund, works in partnership with local schools, charities and other organisations to help them raise money.
The scheme allows organisations to raise funds for their cause whilst helping Riverford raise awareness of the benefits of adopting an organic and healthy lifestyle.
For every new customer that signs up to receive veg box home deliveries, Riverford donate £15 to the organisation.
The Veg Fund was initially rolled out and aimed at primary schools. As part of the scheme, Riverford offer classroom visits where children can learn about vegetables and healthy eating in a fun and interactive way. The scheme has been widely successful so far with many schools across the country signing up and introducing families to life with a veg box.
Riverford’s iconic boxes can inspire children to try new things, as Riverford customer Leanne explains:
"Our girls love the veg box. They sort through deciding what we’ll eat first and what meals to make. Sometimes much of it is eaten before any cooking occurs!"
Franchisee Liz Pocklington explains:
"For us The Veg Fund is a fantastic way to get involved with the local community, especially the classroom visits where we can talk about our boxes and where the veg comes from; it’s great to see children getting so excited and inquisitive about vegetables once they learn more about them."
The success has led to other organisations reaching out to Riverford’s network of franchisees, and one of the latest collaborations is with the Dorset Wildlife Trust. A partnership led by neighbouring Riverford franchisees, Gerard Maguire and Gareth and Gill Rossiter.
Alastair Cook, Dorset Wildlife Trust’s Director of Fundraising and Marketing advised:
"We are delighted to have Riverford as our organic partner for the trust. Both organisations are committed to encouraging a healthier lifestyle and environment. They beat the same drum as us, ensuring that we have a sustainable environment for our future generations and that organic farming is really working with nature and not against it, encouraging natural pest control."
The Veg Fund offers another marketing tool for Riverford’s franchisees to spread the word, grow their customer base but also do some good along the way.
