Melanie Kerry became the latest owner of a Scamps and Champs franchise in late 2015. Initially running the franchise part time alongside her role as an assistant head teacher, Melanie soon started to see the business take off.
"I was attracted by the fact that it was flexible and you could start part time, once I could see the opportunity to work full time in the business I didn’t look back! I’ve watched my business grow each month, which has been fantastic."
Melanie has now begun recruiting pet carers to help her business grow further and is enjoying every aspect of running the business on a day to day basis.
"I love it! Every day is different. Working with animals is the best part, but I enjoy every aspect from marketing and recruitment to meeting new clients and providing pet care. I wish I’d done this sooner."
Having grown up surrounded by dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters and parrots, it seemed like the natural thing for Melanie to work with animals! But the support of Lesley and the Scamps and Champs team were invaluable in ensuring Melanie had the confidence to pursue her dream.
"Lesley has years of experience and provided training and still provides on-going support. She is only at the end of the phone if I need advice. I liked the fact that Lesley encouraged me to talk to other franchisees, and we still regularly communicate with each other. I also agreed with Lesley’s approach of providing the pet care level you’d expect for you own pets, and her commitment to this."
Based in Castle Donington and also serving the Spondon, Chellaston and Chaddesden areas of Derby, Melanie is happy to be her own boss in a job she loves.
"I really enjoy every day doing this and appreciate the opportunity I’ve been given. Knowing this proven business model has worked for others has given me the confidence that I am building my business in the right way and that I can continue to grow the business with the full support of Lesley and the other Scamps and Champs franchisees."
